Empowering engineers by simplifying sensor communications

OMRON GD master connects sensors information manufacturing sites to the PLC. Achieving the foundation for Data utilization through Device layer Digitalisation. OMRON created the GD series to reduce sensor related task which aims to increase machine efficiency.

In addition to this, the GD series is half the size compared to other conventional models with double connection ports. This master unit boosts in network connection being compatible with seven standard field networks.

What is IO-LINK?omron-gd-series-connect

An open digital communication standard defined by IEC 61131-9. Design for devices in the industrial applications such as sensors and actuators, that enables the exchange of sensor status and configuration data with upper-level systems like PLCs. OMRON master unit (GD series) can be connected using standard sensor cables.

Additionally with the plug and play feature, engineers can see instant sensor status and can be easily configured from a PC.

 GD IO-Link Series

OMRON has designed this master unit with engineers in mind. Integrating sensors from multiple manufacturers is time-consuming, however with the GD series this auto-connects to devices from 100 manufacturers instantly usable sensor data. Previously, you had to remember the menu hierarchy and button layout for each sensor, but now you can operate all sensors with the same interface, regardless of sensor type or manufacturer.

By manually repeating the same settings across all sensors within the startup stage is not only time-consuming but also error-prone. This master unit requires no manual configuration allowing settings to be duplicated across multiple sensors. Previously, ON/OFF signals and analog signals were transmitted using separate wiring and I/O units. Now, they can be consolidated into a single communication master unit. This simplified wiring reduces both design and wiring time.

Engineers are required to do maintenance check on any application, which is time-consuming, as well as recovering and managing settings across multiple vendors is challenging. OMRON have designed the GD series to be a quick recovery in the event of a breakdown.  Digital data transmission eliminates A/D and D/A conversion errors, removing the need for noise countermeasures and scaling. Data can be easily collected.
